1. Buffalo Sabres select Rasmus Dahlin
Frolunda(SHL) GP:41 G:7 A:13 P:20
Rasmus Dahlin is going to be an elite blueliner in the NHL for a long time, he’s been ranked #1 all year long and nothing is going to change Friday night. With the likes of Mittelstadt and Eichel adding Dahlin solidifies the great youth that Buffalo is going to showcase this coming fall.
2. Carolina Hurricanes select Andrei Svechnikov
Barrie(OHL) GP:44 G:40 A:32 P:72
Andrei Svechnikov has ridden shotgun to Dahlin for pretty much the entire year and is quite the consolation prize for losing out on the lottery. He is a goal scoring machine and does it from anywhere on the ice. Svechnikov has a good playmaking ability to compliment his offensive game as well.
3. Montreal Canadiens select Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Assat Pori(Sm-Liiga) GP:57 G:10 A:19 P:29
What would be considered an off the board pick in January is no more. Kotkaniemi has been one of the risers of the draft and has played himself into conversation for the top 5 on most scouts lists. Montreal is desperate for a top line centre and Kotkaniemi fits that need. He is one of only a couple of players in the draft who project to be a number one centre.
4. Ottawa Senators select Filip Zadina
Halifax(QMJHL) GP:57 G:44 A:38 P:82
Zadina is flashy, skillful and an absolute monster in the opponents zone. Some say he has the makings of a 30 goal scorer in the NHLer but only time will tell. He will be a great replacement to Mike Hoffman in Ottawa. 82 points in 57 games tells you all you need to know about the young Czech player.
5. Arizona Coyotes select Brady Tkachuk
Boston University(NCAA) GP:40 G:8 A:23 P:31
Much like his brother Matthew. Brady is going to be a huge pain and cause tons of problems to whoever he plays against. The big power forward has a lot of untapped raw talent and can dictate the play with his size and skill which is just what Arizona needs.
