2018 NHL Mock Draft

11. New York Islanders select Barrett Hayton

Sault Ste. Marie(OHL) GP:63 G:21 A:39 P:60

Hayton is a great two way player who has all the tools to be a very reliable centre that can contribute in any way possible. He was able to click at just about a point per game despite not playing on the top line. Hayton is one of the better centres in the draft and since you win through the middle of the ice having Tavares, Barzal and potentially Hayton as your top 3 centres is a great start.

12. New York Islanders select Ty Smith

Spokane(WHL) GP:60 G:14 A:59 P:73

Ty Smith is as steady as they come. He has a great offensive instinct and skating ability to get back into his position if things go wrong. Ty makes everyone around him better and will make a great quarterback on the powerplay. Going with a forward at pick 11 I think the Islanders will balance things out and take a blueliner with pick number 12. Ty Smith fits what they’re looking for.

13. Dallas Stars select Joe Veleno

Drummondville(QMJHL) GP:64 G:22 A:57 P:79

Veleno’s draft stock trended upward when he was traded from St. John to Drummondville where he put up 48 points in 33 games. The Stars blueline looks healthy and good for the future so I assume they take a forward here. Veleno is not the best at any specific area of the game but all around he makes for a very complete player who since the trade has found his scoring touch.

14. Philadelphia Flyers select Joel Farabee

USA U-18(USHL) GP:62 G:33 A:43 P:76

Farabee is a very skilled winger who uses his speed and power to create chances every shift. Joel is likely one of the better passers of this draft and with his high hockey IQ he can spot gaps and holes in the defence. He will continue his development at Boston University in the fall.

15. Florida Panthers select Vitali Kravtsov

Chelyabinsk(KHL) GP:37 G:4 A:3 P:7

Vitali Kravstov is your typical big Russian winger who has a deadly shot and good hands to be able to score from in tight. He showed he may be closer to the NHL than most other players in the draft as he got 11 points in 16 post season games with Chelyabinsk. He is one of the wild cards of the draft as some scouts have him as high a 10-15 pick and others have him as a 25-30 pick.
